Update on my Winter Americans

So with the tournament this weekend, I am nearly done with my army for it. Every time I paint a new army with an event in mind, I tell myself I need to start painting earlier, and every time I leave it till the last second.

At this point, I need to finish basing everything, and paint the faces on 12 stands of infantry. Luckily I have all of tomorrow morning to do it in.

After the weekend I will take some better photos with a better camera, for now though, iPhone photos!

Still, not too bad considering I only started painting it all last week.

Sturm Über Deutschland - Round 1 Draw

The draw for round one of Sturm Uber Deutschland:

The mission will be Cauldron.

Demo games at Chimera Games, and a game at Battlefront

Reluctant Conscripts, as well as being tournament organisers and all round nice guys, are also Rangers. So on Saturday 26th October I ran some demo games of 'Open Fire!' at Chimera Games in Beeston, Nottingham. 4 people played 3 games using the forces from the Open Fire! boxed set, with some appropriate terrain. Hopefully we will have some new players, and new attendees for Reluctant Conscripts events.

I also played a game at Battlefront against Owen a couple of weeks ago, at the same time as Tommy's battle report below. This was Kampgruppe Pieper versus Motostrelkovy in Hold the Line. Although I managed to eventually break the large platoon guarding the front objective, I had to sacrifice too much of my force to do so, and Owen's KV-85s cleaned up any remaining armour. Fearless Trained is a harsh mistress.

Breakthrough on the Eastern Front. A MW FoW battle report

The table as it stands before deployment

The German half-tracks line up, unfortunately its not the best terrain for a speedy assault.

Marders move up to assault.

Long range shots from the Soviet AT takes out the AA.  Armoured Grenadiers prepare to assault.

The assault clears the way.

The assault continues to push forward.

Ready your engines!

Soviet infantry finally manage to dig in.

Germans swing the axis of attack.

Haha, i have you now Ivan?

Oh dear, do those guns have volley fire?...Boom!

Reinforcements arrive.

Attack blunted, 5 platoons down and company breaks.

A great game, I just did not have enough momentum to break the AT guns or the infantry.  Soviets carried the day 5 - 2.

Countdown to Sturm Uber Deutschland

Sturm Uber Deutschland takes place November 2nd and 3rd, more details are available here:

www.reluctantconscripts.co.uk

This is the Late War tournament put on by Reluctant Conscripts, 1750 points, all books. This is the last of the 'open book' events we are running, with each event next year being theatre specific. There is only one restriction, no AOPs for the Allies.

As well as being a great excuse to play five games of Flames of War, tournaments are the sort of impetus I need to get armies painted, and I know I am not alone in that regard. With that in mind, I am planning on taking a US Airborne Engineer Combat Company.

The good news: I have this army already completed in Summer Uniform. Bad News: I am planning on taking a winter uniform force.

Bolt Action Americans

This summer I picked up some 28mm Americans to try out some games of Bolt Action, as a quick play alternative to Flames of War. I originally bought some US Paras, but then discovered the Greatcoat American range from Artizan Designs. I have a big pile of Battlefront Winter Americans, and these were just too cool to pass up.

Kampfgruppe Pieper vs. Glider Engineers in Pincer

Some pictures from a recent game against Owen. He ran Kampgruppe Pieper from Devil's Charge and I ran the US Glider Engineers from Nuts. The scenario was Pincer. It was only after we started playing that we realised we had got the Eastern Front building out. Woops!
