The 10th and 11th of May, the National League event was held in Daventry, UK. This was a team event, with teams of three players, one playing Early War, one Mid War and one Late War. I played LW for Reluctant Conscripts Alpha, with the brothers Rood as my team mates. Lee McColl, Tommy Brown and Tim Harris made up Reluctant Conscripts Bravo.
Players were also given the option of taking both an Allied list and an Axis list to avoid blue on blue games. My two lists were:

Game One - Gareth Evans, 25th Panzergrenadiers, Hasty Attack
Gareth only had one list, so I ended up defending with my Cav Recon on a very open table |
1iC holds one objective, whilst the 2iC and 2ID infantry platoon hold the objective in the village |
A panzergrenadier platoon holds the attackers objective |
Whilst Sturm Tigers and another infantry platoon advances |
Security Jeeps from the TTD skulk around in my deployment zone |
The security section for the M36 Jacksons moves into the village |
TTD destroyers relocate, looking for a good way to engage the Sturm Tigers |
The 2iC takes a shot at the 8 Rads coming down the edge of the table |
A Sturmvogel ranges in on the 1iC. It took the plane 4 rounds of shooting to finally destroy this open topped vehicle. |
Self defense .50 shots keep the Sturmvogel at bay |
Hetzers arrive from reserve, but don't dint the M36 security section |
The M36s deploy the following turn |
And the TTD move right up to the Sturm Tigers, hoping to deploy in the next field along |
Tank Destroyers destroy the Hetzers |
Gareth's Nebelwerfers arrive |
The Sturm Tigers move forward to engage the TDs, and stop me from deploying the Towed TDs |
8-Rads get behind the 2iC and kill him |
So the Jacksons reverse, and deal with the 8-Rads |
Gareth has to move an infantry team forward over the halfway line to stay in the game |
Having come in from reserve, the Chaffees become the target of Gareth air power |
And the Jacksons move to try and get into short range of the Sturm Tigers |
Recce joins the Chaffees pushing for the attackers objective |
.50 cal fire from the Jacksons takes its toll on the infantry in the wheat field |
And on the infantry holding his objective |
TTD security section gets behind the newly arrived German infantry |
An overconfident Recce patrol tries to engage Panzerfaust armed infantry, and pays the price |
Chaffees (more cautiously) try the same on the other side of the table |
One Sturm Tiger is double bailed and flees the table |
Closing in on the objective |
The other Sturm Tiger exposes its side armour to take out a Chaffee |
The Bazookas and halftracks from the TTDs join the fight for the attacker's objective |
Which I then overwhelmed, 5-2 to me |
Game Two - Matt McVeigh, British Airlanding, Breakthrough
I won the dice off to select army lists, and decided to take the Tigers, a decision I would regret after Matt opted to Night Attack, and deployed his many gun teams :) |
I deployed my infantry, King Tigers and 1iC (and a bottle of coke) in one corner |
And the 3.7cm AA and 2iC in the other corner |
The infantry run for the objective, and the King Tigers hide from the 5.5" guns |
The view from the far corner of the table. Thankfully I got to hide in the dark |
Infantry and 6 pdrs move forward, using the buildings for cover |
2 platoons of Tigers quickly arrive from reserve |
The orderly retreat to the objectives continues |
Whilst the 2iC secures the rear objective |
The Panzer IIIs arrive, all my force is on the table |
Paras occupy a selection of buildings in the middle of the village |
6 pdr shots pin the AA |
Whilst artillery pins the infantry |
Matts 'flanking force' of a recce patrol spent several turns dodging 88 shots inside this wood before I killed them |
Panzer IIIs decide they want a go at killing Recce too |
5.5" guns bail both King Tigers |
The Airlanding keep moving from building to building |
Whilst smoke is dropped on the objective |
Eventually the Recce are whittled down |
The 6 pdrs move into short range of the AA |
Tigers keep out of sight of observers coming down the road |
Bombardments take out a KT |
The German situation is grim, but they hold onto the objective |
Panzer IIIs struggle to move round in the wood, bogging and exposing themselves to artillery bombardments |
Throwing everything at the 6 pdrs, I kill one and pin them |
Every vehicle I can spare desperately tries to deal with the 6 pdrs |
But those 16 gun bombardments keep on taking their toll |
Brit troops move up for the assault |
The last 6 pdr on my left flank is dealt with, and the command team fails his sole survivor check |
Those tenacious Brits wipe out the infantry |
And capture the objective |
I got 2 of Matt's 10 platoons, and he won 5-2 |
Game Three - Major John Brock, US 7th Armoured, Hold the Line
The terrain for this game was really unfavourable, with lots of bogging checks, just what two tank forces need |
All the Tigers started on the table, with the infantry spending most of the game pinned down or running for an objective to defend |
John's tanks came down his left flank in force, Easy Eights taking pot shots at Tigers, whilst Jumbos bounced the return fire |
I eventually brought the King Tigers over to deal with them in my frustration |
I should have never got into a firefight with Jumbos and Easy Eights, letting John cross all that terrain and come into the enclosed areas around the objectives would, in hindsight, have been a better plan |
Having gone for his gambit, he was free to move his Sherman 105 platoon down to take the objective defended by my AA platoon. 6-1 to Major John. |
