In anticipation of Corrivalry, Owen and I tried out the Breakout mission, as this was a potential mission for the tournament. The details of it can be found here. We played the original version from WI, which had delayed reserves instead of reserves. I played with the more defensive of my two lists:

The game:
Owen's Engineer Sapper force deploys in the middle of the table |
That's a lot of Russians |
155mm artillery, 90mm AA guns and two platoons of FSSF infantry defend the objectives |
The Engineers and their warrior team infiltrate up into the woods |
And in turn one come out guns blazing, but are stopped by defensive fire |
The T34/76s move up to my left flank, and take some pot shots at the observer |
This objective was left uncontested for the majority of the game |
Another attempt to assault the guns fails. Just. |
90mm guns take out a couple of T34s |
SU100s move up to engage the American guns |
Whilst T34s look to set up their own assault |
So many MG shots |
The 155 battery is taken down to 2 guns |
The T34s go in for the assault |
Another 155 is taken out, and the infantry on my left flank are weakened |
With the 90mm guns and the 155mm guns both weakened, it is safe for the Engineers to come out of the woods |
The Americans stubbornly hold on to this objective |
And take out another T34 in assault |
The first reserves arrive, and some Stuarts try to harass the Soviet backfield |
Drawing the attention of the SU100s |
The T34s and infantry go for some mutually assured destruction, with the US 1iC holding this objective on his own from now on |
Engineers come out to take out another 155mm gun |
The SSF Cannon platoon looks for some opportunistic shots on the side of the SU100s |
Killing one and bailing another |
The Stuarts assault the Heavy Mortars, and the one SU100 who can fire misses |
The other infantry are forced to go delay the Engineer Sappers, abandoning the right hand objective |
Having killed a couple of Russian gun teams and infantry, the Stuarts hide from the SU100s |
The infantry miraculously repels the Engineers in the centre of the table |
But my company fails a morale check, and Owen wins 5-2 |
This was one of two practice games I played for the tournament, and both games I used the wrong list. The auto attack list would have been better against Owen's Engineer Sappers, and the defensive list better when I played Ander's Panzer Kampgruppe. But better I learn these lessons before the tournament starts.
