Vietnam: Contact! Contact!

Got another chance to face Mick and his PAVN forces after our game at Christmas. This time it was a Thursday night at BF HQ, and the scenario was Contact! Contact!

I also changed my list to remove the M113s, and add in off table artillery:

At some point I would like to find a way to do the list with 2 patrols of M113s instead of the Helicopters.

Mick working out how many shots he would get from his Ambuscade
This was also an opportunity to use the new Paddy Fields and Vietnamese Huts I received for Christmas.

The LZ objective

The entire battlefield

2 teams are killed in Ambuscade

The Aeroweapons platoon arrive to take vengeance

12.7cm AA arrives to give the Helos a bad day

The AA has got good line of sight to the Hogs and the Battlefront staffers play testing Dust Tactics. Looks like an interesting game, but I have enough distractions as it is :)

The Australians assault the PAVN company

And kill the teams in range

The Huey Hogs move to engage the remaining PAVN teams

And wipe them out

The Australian 2iC stops to call in some artillery on the AA

Whilst the rest of the Diggers move up towards the objective

The artillery takes out a gun and pins the platoon

All looks good at this point...

Except the Aussies have walked into a minefield

Where they get ambushed by another company of PAVN regulars

They call in another platoon in their slicks, but the RcLs make for a Hot LZ

And they wave off 2 out of the three transports

The wounded remnants of the first platoon are just barely holding on

A part of the second platoon does manage to make it to the LZ

And assault the PAVN company, routing them

Surely the objective is ours?

But they have walked into another minefield, and Charlie has reappeared in force

The Australian Anti-Tank platoon comes on and takes out the 12.7cm AA

Whilst the PAVN infantry take out a Hog

And surround the remaining ANZAC teams

Reinforcements try to land the rest of second platoon over the river

But more RcLs arrive to drive them off

And the game ends, with the PAVN claiming a victory, having wiped out the ANZAC patrol

I really liked the artillery, and didn't really miss the M113s. I do wonder if I would have had more luck if the other infantry platoon had walked on instead of trying to airlift themselves to the objective. I at least no longer assume I can just put Helicopters wherever I like, and they will be fine.
