Conflict Central - Day Two - Vietnam Multiplayer Scenario

Day Two was a bit different, a multiplayer scenario game. Owen, Dan and Will were joined by Matt Sulley who had to work on Day One, whilst Mike Hummel, Bob Davies and myself led the Free World Forces. Nobby officiated.

The ANZACs held a forward Firebase, with the Americans holding a rear Firebase, where the helicopters were located. Additionally, an ANZAC patrol were housed in a village about half way between the two, and with monsoon rains coming down, no helicopters were flying. And it is night time...

The rear Firebase with all those grounded choppers

This is my river - there are many others like it, but this one is mine

The billeted ANZAC troops, trying to get some shut eye

Fire Base Billing - a poorly defended scrap of land

I think I can see something in the woods...

One of the two landing zone objectives

Great to see this many helicopters all in one place

PAVN move to get the imperialist invaders out of their village

A Blackhorse Cavalry patrol is despatched from the rear Firebase to secure the village

The rain eases of and US forces want to land here, but are waved off by enemy troop movements on the ground

Early on the ANZACs in the village take 3 casualties. Instruction from high command (AKA Bob) was to take no wounds, and none of them did...

Gunships arrive to light up the night sky

And to support the village

Cavalry spread out as they get further from the base, worried about an ambush

Two infantry platoons are airlifted into the forward base to reinforce the position

More gunships arrive to harass troops on the landing zone

A poorly held position becomes a stronghold with twice as many troops arriving to garrison it

Worse case scenario for the Blackhorse Cavalry, 1200 points of PAVN appear to ruin their day, just before they reach the river

Dawn breaks on the forward position

And the PAVN finally commit troops to this vital objective - but not many

Mines, booby traps and recoilless rifles make short work of the Blackhorse

The American 1iC, the Australian 1iC and Hal Moore all rush to different sides of the firebase, to provide as large an LZ as possible for future reinforcements

Local Forces start appearing behind the rear base, can those sentries in the towers identify them?

Lots of (blurry) AA appear to start harassing the forward Firebase

Machine gunners in the towers mercilessly gun down the VC approaching the base

PAVN start taking the fight to the forward Firebase

Medevacs. Lots of Medevacs....

At 2:45pm, the PAVN finally capture the village, and revenge is taken by a Huey Hog on the platoon who had killed his countrymen.

With the Blackhorse Cavalry dispatched, the PAVN at the river turn their attention to the rear Firebase

The Cobras are having little effect on the forces in the jungle, despite repeated devastating bombardments

The two platoons of US infantry which were to be committed to the forward Firebase respond to the Local VC threat. We had planned to send them to the front perhaps 30 seconds before the VC arrived behind us.

A fantastic all day game, which I thoroughly enjoyed. In the end a minor victory for the Free World Forces, as we lost control of the village in the afternoon, and a decision was made not to try and retake it, instead we committed our forces elsewhere.

The nationalist players focused too much of their attention on getting battle points and shooting down helicopters to the detriment of achieving their objectives. An early attack on the lightly held front Firebase would have been disastrous for the ANZACs, but once they were reinforced by Mike's Americans, the place became a fortress.
